Culture • Stroke Awareness
Stroke awareness is a cause that hits very close to home for the Curley Family and team. In 2007, Elaine Curley suffered multiple strokes and overcame many serious medical hurdles as a result of her strokes. She has since made a remarkable recovery and we are all incredibly proud of her.
Determined to do something to help, Jaclyn Curley, fueled by Elaine's unbelievable strength, began running with Tedy Bruschi’s foundation, “Tedy’s Team,” in 2008 to raise awareness and funds for the American Stroke Association. She, like the rest of us, strives to do whatever possible to make sure that other families don’t have to go through what the Curley's did.
To support the American Stroke Foundation and Tedy's Team, Jaclyn runs annually in the Boston Marathon, completing her 5th on John and Elaine's 35th wedding anniversary in 2012. Her commitment to training has also led her to run the Train to End Stroke Half Marathon in Kona, HI, as well as various road races, marathons and triathlons in NYC, Falmouth, Hyannis, Orlando (Disney), San Francisco and Newport. In the later part of 2012 she’ll be adding to the list when she runs in both Chicago and New Hampshire!
In 2012, we all made a commitment to build on the incredible work that Jaclyn has been doing. John, III decided to join Jaclyn for the Kona, HI half marathon and the entire Curley Direct team held the first annual "Train to End Stroke Wine Tasting and Auction" which raised an unprecedented amount of money. While we all can't run, there is always something that we can do to help raise awareness and funds to find a cure.
